Ever since I started to pay attention to my diet a few years ago, I have been using smoothies with different combination of ingredients. I have some combinations for breakfast and others as drinks going with meals. I reviewed recipes of different smoothies and gradually came up with a list of ingredients I like to use in my recipes. This recipe is very personal. It’s a recipe I tweak a little every time I prepare it and something I use about 3-4 times every week during the pandemic. I don’t say it’s the best tasting smoothie, but I’m obsessed with the nutrition in the ingredients.
I learned that sprouts contain more mineral contents, enzymes, and vitamins, such as vitamin A, B complex, and C. I also heard that pineapples have a lot of phytochemicals, particularly in the core. These two ingredients become the base of my fruit/veggie smoothies. Before using this kind of smoothie, I have been consuming kombucha for some time as people promote its nutritional benefits. Since sprouts and veggie have strong flavor, I decided to use kombucha to bring in some sweetness to offset the raw veggie flavor. To improve absorption of some of the oil-soluble nutrition in the ingredients, I add some mixed nuts.
I do need to point out that using raw sprouts and veggies might post potential risk of food poisoning. I always dip my veggies in boiling water for a short period time and rinse my sprouts thoroughly.
Again, this is a very personal list of ingredients. People might find it hard to swallow, but I find it very satisfying.
